In Eeklo, the central city of Meetjesland, located in the north of the province Oost-Vlaanderen are the roots of Confiserie Geldhof.
The history of Confiserie Geldhof starts already 3 generations back in 1954.
Then Antoine Geldhof began with the artisanal making of the famous cubderdons. His son Tony took the business over after Antoine.
The Cuberdon or neuzeke, is a cone-shaped candy that tastes like raspberry and resembles in form a nose. The classic Cuberdon has a purplish color, a width of 2.5 cm and weighs 11 or 18 grams. The exterior is hard, with underneath a gelatinous filling. A Cuberdon should be consumed as fresh as possible, the fresher, the better, the thinner the crust and the more fluid the core.
Cuberdons are still produced using the original recipe of 1873. It is made of sugar syrup, raspberry syrup and gum arabic. The typical cone shape is stamped into casting powder, filled with the liquid sugar mass and they are baked in a gentle oven. The summer cuberdons, with flavors of strawberry, orange, lemon and green apple are available from Easter to late September.
Since 2009 the Cuberdon is recognized as a regional protected product
