Haacht Brewery brewed its first top-fermented beer in 1898. Four years later the brewery also started brewing bottom-fermented beer, an innovation at that time. This type of beer was so successful that the brewery quickly became one of the leaders in the world of Belgian brewing. Haacht Brewery belongs today to the top 5 brewers in Belgium: an independent, family-run brewery. True Belgian craftsmanship that results in unique top-quality Belgian beers.
The Charles Quint beers refer to the historical figure Emperor Charles V (1500 – 1558). It is fitting that he is considered as one of the greatest emperors ever. Furthermore, he was also an ardent beer lover. In his honour, Haacht Brewery created the Charles Quint beers that are fit for an emperor. Since 2012 Ommegang Charles Quint completes this range of beers, next to the Golden Blond and Ruby Red. The name Ommegang refers to one of the most important historical parades, the Ommegang of Brussels. Yearly, this impressive parade commemorates the Joyous Entry of Charles Quint and his court in Brussels in 1549.
Ommegang tastes like no other beer and what’s more, it's a true thirst quencher. No fewer than 3 varieties of hops are used to brew it. These provide a floral, spicy flavour with complex bitter notes, enveloped in a delicate citrus aroma. Re-fermentation in the bottle ensures that the taste and aromas come perfectly to the fore.
