Foodpairing - Creativity for new recipes
What is Foodpairing?
Foodpairing is a source of inspiration that allows chefs, bartenders, and others in the food industry to create new combinations of ingredients for dishes or drinks. Foodpairing is not based on intuition or existing recipes, but on science, providing an objective overview of possible pairings.
What is the basis of Foodpairing?
Foodpairing is based on scientific flavor analysis. It is based on the principle that foods can be combined when they share major flavor components.
But the nice thing is that is you don't have to understand anything from these complicated scientific analyses to use Foodpairing. We created easily understandable, structured visualizations of all the resulting possible pairings, what we call Foodpairing trees.
What is a Foodpairing tree?
A Foodpairing tree is an interactive visualization for each ingredient. This tree gives you in one overview all the possible combinations you can make. The ingredients are clustered in categories. Each branch is a category like dairy, meat, herbs and spices,... When you click on a category it will unfold and show you the different subcategories, also grouped. The subcategories of herbs and spices are for example herbs, spices, flowers and plants.
In a Foodpairing tree, your selected product is positioned in the center and all around it are products with which it can be combined. The closer a product is to the center one, the better the pairing. Salsify combines e.g. better with litchi than with kumquat peel, but both combine.
How can Foodpairing inspire?
We inspire by providing more than 1000 interactive Foodpairing trees. These dynamic trees give you in one overview all the possible combinations you can make.
Next to the trees, you will find recipes we created, which range in difficulty of execution from easy to three-Michelin star level. Also to let you be creative with your favorite brand, we included Foodpairing recipes with brands
What is Foodpairing not?
Foodpairing is not a recipe search engine tapping into existing recipes.
Foodpairing is not a tool to replace the chef or the bartender.
Foodpairing provides an overview of combinations, but making a dish or cocktail is much more than just mixing two ingredients. The right quantity of ingredients and the balance in the dish is also crucial. This website doesn't provide this extra information. Finding the right balance is up to you.
